International passengers can transit through Queensland without quarantining or completing the Queensland International Arrivals Registration if your next flight is within 8 hours of your arrival in QLD and you remain at the airport until your next: international flight to leave Australia, or domestic flight to leave Queensland. If you are an international transit passenger who has between 8 and 72 hours from your arrival in Queensland and your next flight out of Queensland (or Australia), you will be required to quarantine at government arranged accommodation until your next flight and complete the Queensland International Arrivals Registration.

ith a surge in cases relating to the new omicron variant, various regions across India are adding new travel restrictions during the busy holiday travel period. This week, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) introduced a seven-day home quarantine for all passengers arriving in Mumbai from the UAE. Along with mandatory quarantine, all passengers are required to show proof of double vaccination in addition to a negative PCR test taken no longer than 72 hours prior to travel. Passengers incoming from at-risk countries to Delhi will be required to take a PCR test on arrival, and those who will present with a positive test will then need to undergo a seven-day quarantine. A PCR test must be taken on the eighth day; if the results are still positive, travellers must self-quarantine for an additional seven days. All travellers arriving in India are also advised to pre-download Aarogya Setu, a COVID-19 tracking app developed by the government where travellers can upload their Covid vaccination certificates and PCR tests.

Tasmania and the ACT have been elevated to ‘high risk’ jurisdictions from Monday 3 January 2022. Travel into WA from Tasmania or the ACT is not permitted, unless you are an approved traveller and receive approval to enter via G2G Pass

Effective immediately, interstate travellers to Northern Territory are no longer required to provide a negative PCR result before arriving in the state. Interstate arrivals must now take a rapid antigen test then submit a declaration online within two hours of arrival. This test will be provided to travellers when they arrive. If coming into the NT by road, travellers will be directed to a collection point where they'll be able to pick up their RAT test.

The UAE will ban all unvaccinated citizens from travel on January 10, the country’s National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) announced Saturday. The new rules also require Emiratis planning to travel to have received a booster dose of vaccine if they are eligible. The booster can be taken six months after an individual has received their second dose of vaccine.

South Africa will be removed as a virus variant area from 03 January. From 04 January South Africa will be considered a high-risk area, whereby travellers from high-risk areas can enter Germany under the relaxed conditions. All travellers will be required to complete the digital entry registration form. Persons over the age of six must provide a negative test result, proof of recovery OR vaccination. Tests that are accepted will be either a negative PCR test result taken no more than 72 hours prior to entry or a negative antigen rapid test, carried out no more than 48 hours prior to entry. For persons who have been vaccinated or recovered and arrive from a high-risk area, mandatory quarantine ends immediately after submitting proof of vaccination or proof of recovery on the entry portal of the Federal Republic of Germany. For all other travellers, a 10 day self-isolation applies, that can be ended after 5 days by submitting a negative test result.

From 6pm Friday 31 Dec (WA time) both South Australia and Queensland will be reclassified as 'extreme risk', bringing them into line with New South Wales and Victoria. Entry from these states will only be granted to some Commonwealth and state officials, members of parliament, diplomats, specialists, or others in extraordinary circumstances.

Scott Morrison has unveiled a new definition of a Covid-19 close contact that will come into effect in five states and territories from midnight. Under the new definition only a person who is living with a confirmed Covid-19 positive or sharing an accomodation setting for more than four hours with an infected person is considered a close contact. A Covid-19 infected person will be required to isolate for seven days and have a negative rapid antigen test on day six before leaving quarantine. But a symptomatic close contact will be required to undergo a PCR test. An asymptomatic close contact will be required to have a rapid antigen test and if positive have a separate PCR test to confirm the result. The new definition will be activated in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and the ACT from midnight tonight. Tasmania will follow and the Northern Territory and Western Australia will make announcements in the coming days.

South Africa will remain at Adjusted Alert Level 1. Curfew will be lifted and there will be no restriction on the hours of movement of people. Gatherings are permitted however only a maximum of 1000 people indoors and no more than 2000 people outdoors will be allowed. All international travellers arriving in South Africa must produce a negative PCR test, to be presented on arrival and not older than 72 hours from the date of departure from the country of origin. Masks must be worn for the duration of travel. A person entering the Republic must be subjected to screening on arrival at the point of entry, including the completion of a traveller health questionnaire.

Testing requirements for travellers entering Tasmania from high-risk and extreme-risk areas are changing from 12.01am on 1 January 2022. The negative PCR test requirement for fully vaccinated travellers from high and extreme-risk areas and unvaccinated travellers will be replaced with the requirement to return a negative COVID-19 rapid antigen test (RAT) result in the 24 hours prior to departure to Tasmania. PCR test results obtained within 72 hours prior to travel will continue to be accepted but are not necessary, with RAT results now accepted.

From Saturday 01 January 2022, if you are a hotspot traveller entering Queensland, you will be able to meet entry testing requirements by either a negative Rapid Antigen Test or a negative PCR test taken in the 72 hours prior to entering Queensland. Until then, a negative PCR test is required for entry.

Western Australia has reclassified Queensland and South Australia from medium-risk jurisdictions to high-risk jurisdictions.

Queensland Government announced from today, effective immediately there no longer is a requirement for travellers arriving from an interstate hotspot to have the Day 5 test. Testing will still be required if experiencing symptoms or you are a close contact.

WA is re-introducing hard borders with Tasmania and the Northern Territory, meaning entry into the state is prohibited without an exemption. It means, for the first time in more than a year, WA will have a hard border with every state and territory. The border rule changes come into force on Boxing Day.

From 11:59pm tonight, Canberrans must wear a mask in all indoor settings, including indoor retail settings, indoor workplaces and on public transport. Visitor restrictions are also being reintroduced for residential aged care facilities.

South Australia will no longer require interstate travellers to have a COVID-19 test on arrival, if they've tested negative 72 hours prior to travel and don't have any symptoms. Waiting times at testing clinics across the state have reached six to eight hours in certain cases. "We apologise for the lengthy delays that some people have experienced," Premier Steven Marshall said.
